Shantanu Netralaya was started by Dr. Rajesh Gupta in the year 1990. Being a loving father he named his clinic after his son. He had begun his practice in a small clinic at Luxa, Varanasi in the year 1987. After a few years, main branch of the eye centre was established in Deen Dayal Colony, Near Kabir Nagar Varanasi.

CATARACT, CORNEA, MEDICAL RETINA

Inspired by his father Dr Shantanu entered the field of medicine in the year 2007 after qualifying the All India PMT exam (now NEET) with a brilliant AIR 50. He then completed his MBBS at prestigious University College of Medical Sciences in the year 2012. He went on to crack NEET PG entrance with a AIR 158 to start his journey in Ophthalmology from the prestigious Guru Nanak Eye Centre, Maulana Azad Medical College which is the most sought after superspeciality government facility for training in ophthalmology.

Apart from an excellent rank in NEET PG Dr Shantanu secured AIR 91 in AIIMS PG entrance. His thesis work was awarded as the Best Poster which he had presented in the American Academy Of Ophthalmology, Chicago in 2016. After his post graduation he joined as a senior resident in GNEC, MAMC. There he performed thousands of cataract surgeries. He also got a dedicated training in Cornea and refractive surgery Unit of GNEC where he performed about 150 corneal transplant surgeries, and several other surgeries like LCAT, SLET, Ocular Surface squamous neoplasia excision etc. He also got trained in planning and surgical aspects of LASIK and Phakic IOLs.

After his journey in cornea he went on to further pursue 1 year dedicated training in Medical Retina where he performed countless laser procedures, fluorescein angiographies and intravitreal injections. During his senior residency he also cleared the DNB as well as FICO examinations (Fellow of international council of ophthalmology) with merit.

CATARACT SURGERY
Cataract is the most common cause of treatable blindness not just in our country but also worldwide. Cataract surgery has evolved over the years from intracapsular cataract extraction to the current gold standard which is PHACOEMULSIFICATION.

Our centre aims at providing the perks of phacoemulsification (sutureless cataract surgery) at a reasonable price. We also expertise in premium IOLs such as toric IOLs, multifocal IOLs and aspheric IOLs. Management of post traumatic cases using CTR, CIONNI as well as SFIOLs are done at our centre. Small incision cataract surgery is also another area of our expertise.

PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLGY
Pediatric cataract is a very challenging scenario for an ophthalmologist owing to certain features that are unique to a child’s eye. However, early management is of utmost importance in order to prevent permanent visual impairment which might even lead to psychological impairment in a child. Our centre aims at providing pediatric cataract services again at a very reasonable and affordable rates.Not just cataract, refractive errors are very common in children too which if uncorrected lead to amblyopia (lazy eye). An early detection and treatment prevents this complication. We also provide amblyopia treatment at our centre. We believe in doing a detailed and comprehensive examination of every child as every child is special and deserves the best.
