Scylla serrata, commomly known as the Mud Crab, Green Crab or Mangrove Crab it is an economically important species of crab found in the mangroves of India.

There is high interest in the aquaculture of Scylla serrata due to the high demand/price for them, high flesh content, and rapid growth rates in captivity. In addition, they have a high tolerance to both nitrate] and ammonia which is beneficial because ammonia-N is often the most limiting factor on closed aquaculture systems.

They are very active and will eat almost any conventional sinking pellets; they also consume some small fish pieces and vegetable matter. They are tolerant of most water conditions and are generally a very hardy species.

Crabs are grown in neat and organized vertical crab housing that are cleaned regularly.

Water crabs are fatten in the crab housing over a short duration into profit yielding Meat crabs.
